Living the Questions: The Use of Reason
Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry Robert Nichols, worship associate

This year we enter into our dialogical service looking at how we use reason to discern moral issues. Specifically, we’ll be looking at how the UUA worked through their decision about the 2012 Phoenix General Assembly in light of Arizona’s new immigration law which permits local law enforcement to require documentation of anyone they stop. You’ll be invited to bring your thoughts to bear on this timely subject.
Carmen Sandim, pianist

Visitors, please join Rev. Lydia after the service for a chat on the dias. You can take this opportunity to ask your questions about Unitarian Universalism and our Fellowship.

Hymnastics: Writing, Singing and Thinking about our UU Hymns as a Loose Scriptural Canon
Fred Denny, worship leader, preaching; Sheila Brown, worship associate

From the earliest times of Unitarian and Universalist congregational worship in America the singing of hymns has played an important part. Some are even
saying today that our hymn traditions function “very much like sacred scripture,” as Jason Shelton, composer of the “Sources” cantata, has written. We will explore this fascinating hypothesis at the service as we also enjoy singing together some wonderful examples of UU hymns, both historical and recent.

The Four Spiritualities: Understanding Religious Difference
Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry, preaching Diane Witt, worship associate
Why are some people attracted to ‘traditional’ sources, like Jewish and Christian teachings, and the world religions, and some people more attracted to the use of reason or direct experience? Today we explore paths to spiritual understanding, to get a better understanding of ourselves and those in the pews next to us.

The Earth, the Air, the Fire, the Water, Return, Return, Return, Return
_Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry Ellen Valentine, worship associate _
An Outdoor Service honoring our Sixth Source
Ten years after the original UUA Purposes and Principles were adoptd by the delegates at the General Assembly, a sixth source was adopted: Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. Today we gather in our nature playground for an outdoor service that honors the earth-centered traditions. Music by Ellen Laverdure
