Volunteer Job Descriptions for the Religious Education Program

Religious Education Volunteer Jobs

Beginning your involvement? Need something easy? Try:

1) Teaching Assistant (9 & 11 a.m.)
Assist twice a semester in the class of your choice. Arrive 10 minutes early and help the teacher. No planning is required.

2) Playground Monitor (10 – 11 a.m.)
4 times per semester. Enjoy the outdoors with our children between services.

3) Ad Hoc Help with CYRE Projects and Events
as needed, see projects and events on the Events page
We have a variety of fun activities that we sponsor like the Pumpkin Glow and Bingo Night for which we need help setting up or cleaning up, for instance.

4) Sub for Teacher or Teaching Assistant
Twice per semester or as needed.

Like to become more involved? Try:

1) Room Parent
Host one social event and one justice project for the age group and/or families. We have simple, easy to implement projects, such as handing out grocery bags at a local store for Community Food Share or sharing sandwiches on the playground after a service.

2) Teacher
Teach once every 3 weeks in a team of 3 other teens or adults. The curriculum is provided. Visit the CYRE Teacher Page. Teachers must have been involved in BVUUF at least 6 months, or in another UU congregation, and complete a background check.

3) Serve on C.Y.R.E. (Children and Youth RE) Committee
We meet once per month after the late service. Childcare is provided, as needed. There is a planning retreat in June.

4) Mentor Coming of Age participant
Attend half of the Coming of Age Sessions to mentor one of the participants. Attend part of each weekend retreat.

Ready to Grow and Expand? Try:

1) Teach an O.W.L. (Our Whole Lives Human Sexuality) Class (1st, 5th, 7th, High School)
A weekend training is required to teach any O.W.L. class. For more information on BVUUF OWL programs, visit BVUUF’s OWL page

2) Teach Coming of Age (8th grade)
Be one of four adult facilitators to offer the Coming of Age program to 8th graders. Two camping retreats, a Ropes Course, and 12 sessions.

3) Ninth Grade Trip Advisor
Accompany the bus and approximately 40 Ninth Graders on the 10 day trip to Hopi and Navaho Lands. Attend the once a month classes/retreats at various Front Range UU churches. Apply in August. For more information, visit the Ninth Grade Trip website
4) Adult Advisor for a CON
Attend one or more of the four weekend Conferences for 9-12th graders that are held in our district during the academic year.
