August 1: The use of reason

August 1, 2010

Living the Questions: The Use of Reason
Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry Robert Nichols, worship associate

This year we enter into our dialogical service looking at how we use reason to discern moral issues. Specifically, we’ll be looking at how the UUA worked through their decision about the 2012 Phoenix General Assembly in light of Arizona’s new immigration law which permits local law enforcement to require documentation of anyone they stop. You’ll be invited to bring your thoughts to bear on this timely subject.

Visitors, please join Rev. Lydia after the service for a chat on the dias. You can take this opportunity to ask your questions about Unitarian Universalism and our Fellowship.

PROFOUND SIMPLICITY
Many people today struggle with the complexity and intensity of modern life. If we don’t pay close and frequent attention to our core values, we can easily lose our way and end up feeling out of alignment with our deepest priorities. We then become “stressed out” and “dis-heartened” in a way that drains the sense of sacredness and joy from our lives. In this talk, guest speaker David Chernikoff will share Buddhist teachings on how to live in harmony with ourselves, with one another, and with the earth. A graduate of the Starr King School for the Ministry, David is a spiritual counselor and licensed psychotherapist who currently works with individuals, couples, and groups in Boulder and throughout the U.S. He also teaches meditation and psychology at Naropa University and is one of the guiding teachers of the Insight Meditation Community of Colorado.
